A lovely, flat walk from Rosthwaite taking in a child-friendly bit of scrambling in some caves at the northern end.

There's plenty to see on this walk which is set in the southern end of the stunning Borrowdale Valley.

The kids loved seeing the chickens, sheep and Aberdeen Angus cattle on the farm. A little further on they learned what a ford is for and we paused to watch the water rushing under the lovely stone bridge - the river was quite full after all the rain we've had lately.

The walk is pretty much flat until you reach the caves so it's easy for all walking abilities and even then it's pretty easy to get to Millican Dalton's cave. If you want to complete the loop on the northern end of route map, you can find further caves further up the hill to explore - just watch your footing as on days where the rock is wet it will of course be slippery.

Once you're done exploring, you can simply head back the way you came. There is a way to get down to the river not long after setting off back from the caves, however it's not recommended after heavy rainfall - it can get swampy and submerged so we left it off our map.

If you have time you can take a pit-stop at the tea room back by the farm if you like - it was closed when we went which is understandable between Christmas and New Year but we do love a good tea room and it supports the local economy.
